It's been an interesting gardening year, to say the least. April snowstorms delayed my normal early season schedule, and I'm not nearly as organized as I planned.
On a positive note we're already enjoying fresh basil and lettuce. Actually, we have an ample amount of both. I'm looking forward to spinach and radishes in a few weeks to round out the salads.
The tomatoes are doing fine, and the pepper plants look great. The various squash and melon - Eight Ball, Lakota, Chris' pumpkins, Small sugar pumpkin, Small wonder and Jenny Lind melon - are healthy, and I'm happy to have them in the ground. Same with the salad bush cucmbers. The first planting of peas has germinated, but I still need to plant pole beans. The cabbage and broccoli are growing strong, although I need to cover them since I saw the little white butterflies flitting around them today.
My potato harvest should be interesting. I originally planned on planting them in my half of the plot at the Park Place Community Garden, but we didn't get it tilled in time. Instead, it looked more like I was hiding Easter eggs than planting potatoes in the home garden! I have a few here... few there. We'll see how they do.
The greens, radishes and orach I seeded a month ago are doing well. They'll need to be thinned soon. The carrots still haven't germinated. I planted a purple variety on the west side of the greenhouse alongside the Brussels sprouts, and a "Nante' in another bed. The 'Cippolini' onions for my friend, Deb, are on the south side of the greenhouse; plus I have roughly 75 'Copra' and another 40 or so 'Walla Walla' onions near the alpine currants.
So, things are planted all over the place, but seem to be doing well so far. We'll just have to wait and see how the season progresses.
