I'm going to take my spring break right outside the dining room door. Grant assembled the greenhouse a couple of weeks ago, and we ultimately decided to place it in the kitchen garden off the patio to protect it from the wind. (People often have to chain down their barbeque grills up here, and it's not unusual for trapolines and canoes to find new homes.) I think this will work out just fine. I'll use it to start the seedlings this spring, then plant a few tomatoes, peppers, okra and lemon verbena plants in the ground to keep them longer through the season.
A couple of days ago I started Buttercrunch lettuce inside. It's already germinated, so in a few weeks I should be able to plant it inside the greenhouse to provide early greens for dinner. I'm already so tired of buying lettuce in the store.
Even though we had a little snow last week - and temperatures in the single digits - the greenhouse warms up nicely during the day. On a sunny day it's at least 70 degrees, and with an outside temperature in the 50's, it will easily reach 90 degrees. What can be better than that? I will take a greenhouse over a "spring break" vacation anytime!
