Mom came out last Saturday as originally planned since John was scheduled to be delivered yesterday. Even though it was hectic during his early arrival, I have to admit, it's much nicer to have her out now when I'm not tripped out on painkillers, and trying to establish some sort of routine. We're a little more settled now so it's not as if we're juggling quite as many tasks, and can enjoy the time more.
Besides entertaining Sam, she's in full cleaning mode. The pantry is done, a cupboard or two, and now she cleared all of the books out of the bookcase so we could move it out of Sam's path of playing. Of course, he's "helping" her with that project by handing her books or pretending to vacuum.
It's been nice for me to have an extra set of hands because I've been able to accomplish a few tasks of my own. Yesterday was nice so I spent a little time cleaning up the large debris in the garden - the sunflower stalks, old vegetation, etc. I wanted to do it in the fall, but felt so horrible that I never got around to it. Next, I'll burn the piles if we have a half-hour without wind.
This afternoon when Grant is home from work, she and I can run to the mall and a couple of stores since I should probably use the gift certificate I've had since my birthday last fall to buy new sheets for the new mattress set she and Greg bought us. I also have to pick up a bale of potting soil since seed starting officially begins next week, and a new file cabinet would be a good addition to the office. The single "everyday" drawer isn't cutting it anymore, and having the others in the garage don't work well in the whole scheme of things. It's funny that you hear about the nesting instinct before giving birth - I guess I have more of the reorganizing bug after the child is already here! Plus, with Mom out it certainly makes things a whole lot easier.
