I don't know who said "When man plans, God laughs." It couldn't have been more true with a series of events that I'll elaborate upon later (when I'm more coherent). I woke up Wednesday morning in the early stages of labor, and we hustled to the hospital. Although I've been coping with Braxton Hicks contractions for months, these meant business. Dr. Eck arrived shortly after the nurse determined this was the real thing, and roughly 39 minutes later John Royal blessed us with his vocal arrival.
Mom is coming out on the 21st since the C-sections was slated for the 23rd, but thankfully, Grant rallied the troops and we had plenty of friends stepping in to babysit Sam in shifts. He loved the attention, and I'm grateful for the help.
Grant did an incredible job hustling back and forth to tend to Sam, as well as taking care of me and the baby, who spent the first couple of days in the NICU to receive antibiotics. He checked on him when I couldn't get out of bed, and helped me when I could. I'm incredibly blessed by a fantastic husband who selflessly does whateever is necessary. The entire time I was in the hospital he took care of Sam, kept the house in perfect order, and fielded a myriad of phone calls.
I'm also floored by the outpouring of support from friends. Elsie ran up here early, early Wednesday morning to watch Sam when we went into the hospital, and stayed here a good hunk of the day with him. He has a wonderful time playing with her, and I'm sure it helped him being at home with all of this happening. Grant also dropped off Sam at our friend, Silvia's, who has a son just a few months younger than Sam. Although it sounds as if Sam wasn't too keen on playing with Luke, he sure loved their dog!
Plus, friends came in shifts to watch Sam, and brought enough food to feed an army. When our friend, Karen, was over on Saturday she called Grant to let him know people were dropping off food and gifts, and what should they do with all of it. The freezer was packed when we came home on Sunday.
Wes and Daryl have been making dinner for us twice a week for nearly a month, and made us dinner this week. Plus, our LIFE group at the Great Falls Church of Christ, started scheduling meals thoughout the week. I love trying other peoples' cooking, and the meals have been a treat. They've also been extremely supportive with cards and calls, and offers of help in any way. It's been incredible.
I have much more to say, but feel a bit narcoleptic at the moment. In the meantime, here are few photos. More will come when I'm more lucid.
