Yesterday and today it was warm enough to finally plant a few of the tomatoes and other veggies with protection. I love the Wall-O-Waters for the tomatoes, and have been using them for years with great success. At the old gardens outside of West Glacier, I've set plants out at least six weeks prior to the last frost date; it's snowed on them without harming them.
Normally using
the Wall-O-Waters is simple. Plant the tomato; set a five gallon bucket over it;place the Wall-O-Water around the bucket and fill the cylinders with water; pull off the bucket and the water teepee folds in at the top. The sun warms the water during the day, and it releases enough heat at night to keep the tomato happy. Now throw in the plastic Rapid Red Mulch (which does increase production by at least twenty-percent), a slight breeze and a little helper. Oh my. It was a challenge to say the least, and didn't take long for Sam and I to be completely soaked. Such is life - six tomatoes planted and ten more... no make that fourteen more... to go.
